It was midnight when I pulled into this place, Strouds Run State Park. After 2 hours of driving in the fog on an unfamiliar road through terrain I can’t see, I found this state park. It’s right outside Athens OH. There was some seriously backroad kinda driving to get here.
It was so damn humid. Set the tent up, stripped off the hideously moist clothes, and crashed almost immediately. Its amazing how my distaste for all things six legged goes out the door when I’m tired. I am pretty sure I put the tent right on top of an ant colony, big black sons of bitches were everywhere. Didn’t care! The forest was loud with toads, crickets, cicadas and god knows what else.
Woke up to the motherfucking waste truck sucking out the shit from where the RVs dump their waste. 5:30am! And it was raining! Not pouring down, but that annoying rain that is just enough to get everything wet and fog up the glasses. At least now I know it isn’t too difficult to pack up my gear in the rain. Of course my next stop to camp will have a hot, stinky, damp tent and sleeping bag. Joy!
