Ten years away from Chicago leaves you completely unable to cope with the downtown freeway experience. Here comes this yokel from the sticks driving 65 in a 55 zone and everyone is flying past on the left and right side at 80! It is unnerving. It takes all your concentration to keep all the variables in line. Five lanes of traffic with cars and semis and motorcycles all jockeying for position. A Cadillac Escalade swerves across 4 lanes of traffic to reach an exit that just got occupied by a guy on a motorcycle and the orgy of break lights that ensue. Like blood cells flowing around a clump of cholesterol, no wrecks just seamless readjustment. It’s awe inspiring. And then you hit the I-90 bullshit parking lot where it take 25 minutes to go 4.5 miles! Pulaski is endlessly 2 more exits away!
Did I mention the 45 minutes of break lights on I57 out in the south suburbs? Stuck behind a semi with a mile of parked cars ahead of us. I might have been going into fits with all the fist shaking I was doing.
GPS got me to Dave’s house at around 11pm. He was kind enough to have a great big glass of Jack on the rocks waiting for me and a calzone from Chicago’s Pizza in the oven! Who could ask for anything more.
Just met up with my sister, Beth, we’re at Pizzeria Uno Chicago Grill, or whatever the corporate franchise name is. We’ve got pan pizzas on the way!
The remains of the pizza.
Now at Woofield Mall! Classic 70’s style indoor mall in Schaumburg, IL. They’ve kept it up quite nicely. Hasn’t gone downhill at all. Apple Store let me down, though. Still mo iPad camera connection kits, damnit.
